What better way to escape from the hussle and bussle of the high street or should we say online shopping! than to spend a couple of hours running around the North Pembrokeshire countryside, whilst climbing through, under and over mud laden natural and man made obstacles.
The Christmas Mud Run is an ideal preamble to your Xmas Party or even a festive get together for the family, a group of friends or team mates looking for something a bit different. Over the years the mud run has also proved to be very popular with charity groups running it for their various good causes. So whatever your motivation is the Man-up in the Mud Christmas Run is a great challenge!
The course is approximately a 5 mile run or walk, which will see you cross over the boundaries of 3 farms, namely Celtic Camping Bunk House and Accommodation, Tremynnyd Farm and Caerhys Organic Farm. During your experience! You will be in touching distance of the magnificent Pembrokeshire Coast Path with some of the best sea views known around you!
All of this as we guide you into the wettest, muddiest and boggiest area the land has to offer. You will climb things, go under things and go through things any “normal” person would avoid and being on the Western tip of Wales the weather will be what the weather will be, But saying all of that – you will really really enjoy it!!
This event and course is ideal for those who want a challenge and a sense of achievement with a bunch of friends. But it is also pretty demanding for those who want to race it! However please note we do not time this event, or offer awards, it is a challenge but we will publish the finishing order.
Course amendments, the autumn and early winter will see us working hard with the farmers to develop new sections, obstacle and routes and we will update you on these as we go!
Free onsite Parking – Event T-shirt – Use of Changing facilities and Showers. In addition to this there will also be refreshments available
Mud Runs are getting more and more popular and the following questions and answers and hints may help you in your preparation to make the event more enjoyable or decision whether the mud run is for you!
Q. How fit do you have to be?
A. We don’t mind if you walk or run the course but you have to be fit enough to cover 5 miles cross country, whilst climbing under and over obstacles and wading through mud and ponds, It tough but achievable
Q. What are the obstacles?
A. The Obstacles are mainly all natural and the man made ones are synthetic to the rural environment, The main thing to remember in your preparation is that the obstacles are not technical so you should be able to manage them all, However if you do not fancy any particular obstacle there is always an option to pass on it
Q. What training should I do?
A. As with anything you should train for what you are going to be doing, therefore we strongly recommend you should incorporate into your training plans, Cross Country Running, some strength training and cold water/muddy bog training to acclimatize, you do not want the day of the event to be your first experience of the Mud and Cold! For further tips and plans please contact us
Q. What is the difference between The May Run and Dec Run?
A. Well the obvious is the temperatures! But don’t let that fool you we have had mild December Runs and Cold May Runs and it doesn’t matter which one you sign up for you have to be prepared for inclement weather and the ponds will be chilly whatever the month. But as a rule you can expect the Dec course to be Wetter, Muddier and colder. The May one is a little bit longer a bit more climbing and more chance of getting nettle stings
Q. How do we prepare for the cold
A. We have had hypothermia cases at our mud run events and the vast majority of these have come about once runners have crossed the line. We recommend that you train for the cold but also have a finishing plan, of having loose fitting warm clothing, towel, hat and gloves to wear and easy to hand. for further details please ask.
